First I will
start off by telling you what RP or Role Playing means. The best way
that I know how to explain it all is to take what is in the FFGF on
AOL. The following I copied and pasted from AOL's keyword FFGF, then
about FFGF, explaining the purpose of Free Form Gaming Forum. The links
that are provided in the section below are for AOL/MSIE user's only.
They can only be accessed while signed onto aol and when using their
browser to view this page. Browse on down this page to get to the section
for info on my characters.
NOTE: Some of
these links may no longer work, because they are very old and I don't
RP anymore.
Dear Patrons,
Welcome to the
Free Form Gaming Forum, home to Free-Form Role-Play on AOL! Free Form
Gaming is improvisational, in-character interaction with other players
in which all participants work together to create an illusion. It's
a method of role playing where you decide your destiny, from the moment
you create your character until... well... forever. We have no rules
that tell you how to create your character, how to have your character
act or how to live their lives. All we ask is that you abide by AOL's
Terms of Service and have respect and consideration for your fellow
players.
If you're new
to the FFGF, or you haven't been here in a while, check out the new
FFGF Community
Area. Inside the FFGF Community Area, you'll find a few areas to
help you learn some of the basics. It is assumed that all interaction
taking place in the FFGF chat areas and message boards is in-character
(IC), except for areas specifically designated as out of character (OOC).
Both of these sections contain information on communicating and interacting
with others in both IC and OOC situations.
Here's a quick
rundown of the main areas that make up the FFGF.
Dueling Center
If you're looking
for a bit of competition, The
Dueling Center is the place for you. We offer duels by the blade,
by the fist, and by the spell. No matter what your interests, you're
bound to find a duel for you.
Epic Adventures
Storytellers
Unite! Epic Adventures
is dedicated to those who are interested in interactive fictional storytelling.
Read through the stories in progress, grab your pen and feel free to
join in.
FFGF Community
Area
The FFGF
Community Area is where all patrons go to shed their personaes and
interact with one another in a real world setting.

==== Regarding
"Rules" ====
The FFGF does
not endorse or support any sort of rules for role playing in our areas
(other than AOL's
Terms of Service). We also do not officially suppport player based
groups or organizations. If you wish to use some rules and guidelines
or form a group or organization, that's fine, but be sure the people
you play with know how you are planning on playing, and make sure they
agree to abide by the same set of guidelines. You may end up having
to compromise in certain areas.
==== Creating
Characters ====
You can utilize
what ever method that you are comfortable with. Some players will use
"rules" they are familiar with from games they have played in the past.
Others will simply "make-up" their characters. And still others will
"borrow" characters from fiction, television, movies, or wherever else
their interests lead them.
Your characters
can be as in-depth and well rounded as you like as well. There is no
requirement to start with a fully fleshed out character. There are those
players that like to have a fully detailed, down to the day of birth,
character while others prefer to start with simply a screen name and
concept and build the character as they go along.
Any and all kinds
of characters are welcome in the FFGF...everything from Paladins to
Cyberpunks.
The only limitation
in your character creation is your imagination.
In the same way
that there are no rules for how to duel, there are no rules for thieves
or assassins or pirates to follow. No preset chart or graph allows you
to get the upper hand over other players. In order to do anything, you
must have the cooperation of any player who's storyline you want to
impact
If you're a thief
for example, simply ask them in IMs if you can lift a small purse from
them or something. Asked politely, most players will cooperate. This
lets them utilize being robbed in their storyline and should help you
out with yours. Free-form gaming is all about cooperative storytelling.
As for someone killing off their character so that your assassin might
look more authentic, you might ask if someone is willing to create a
special character, slated to die, just for that purpose.
If they don't
want to cooperate, you can always create your own NPC or Non player
Character to be stolen from, killed, whatever. Just remember: You act
only for your character, not for anyone else's.
To use the Thief
example again, you might explain to someone in IMs that your character
is a superlative thief, no one feels his fingers slip in and take their
money, their jewelry, etc... but someone else might have the ability
to detect.. it's a matter of being positive, adult and cooperative.
If someone won't cooperate, you can't force the issue. Some folks characters
never wear jewely.. some don't carry money.. that's why polite IMs are
always best. In the long run, the roleplay will be more fruitful.
==== Profiles
====
The option used
most often by patrons is creative use of the AOL profile (Keyword PROFILE
>> My Profile). Here you can write in character information. Where it
says "Computers;" you don't actually have to put the type of computer
you're using... instead you could use that line to write a very basic
description of your character; height, weight, eye color, usual dress.
Many players have found it helpful to add the words: "Roleplaying Profile
Only" to help other AOL patrons understand that the profile represents
a character in a game, not the player behind the character.
The other option
you have is to visit the FFGF
Websites area as linked to previously. Many patrons want pictures
and more detail with their character descriptions and if you have an
understanding of HTML, this is an excellent way to give your roleplay
that special touch.
If you have more
questions, just let me know :D

I ended the copy and paste here!!
I do hope that
the information above helped you understand what a Role Playing Character
is. There are several chat rooms on AOL that cater to RPG. (role playing
games) Most are found in the Arts and Entertainment Category either
under member rooms or public rooms.
